This easy-to-make homemade taco seasoning mix is the one I turn to for my pork filled tacos. With its blend of mustard, paprika and touch of fennel (plus other spices), it fits the bill perfectly and adds superb flavours and fabulous aromas! (See the bottom of the page for links to more of my homemade recipes)
What You'll Need: (makes about 10 tablespoons)
3 tbsp smoked paprika (or regular)
2 tbsp mustard seeds
2 tbsp cumin seeds
2 tbsp dried rosemary
2 tbsp cayenne pepper
1 tbsp dried oregano
3 tsp white peppercorns (or black)
2 tsp fennel seeds
2 tsp garlic powder
2 tsp onion powder
2 tsp sea salt
tbsp = tablespoon
tsp = teaspoon
Directions:
Store this taco mix in an airtight jar out of direct sunlight. Use within 3 months.
Note: You could lightly dry toast the whole ingredients just before grinding for even more flavours. This is simple and well worth doing. Click here for further info about this. (Link opens in new window)
Ingredient Note: I use a lot of whole spices in my blends as I have them available. If you don't have them just use pre-ground powders and cut down the amounts by about half. This recipe uses 2 tablespoons of whole mustard seeds so you would use 1 tablespoon of mustard powder if that's all you have etc.
