Thyme Tea Recipe - Make and Enjoy a
Refreshing, Super Healthy Cuppa

Used the world over, thyme is definitely a herb we all should add more of to our diet. And making homemade thyme tea is a super easy way to achieve this. Making your own is very quick and simple to do, just chop a few sprigs, pour on some boiled water, let steep and in minutes you'll be enjoying a super healthy herbal tea with all the medicinal and health benefits that come with it! What You'll Need For Fresh: (makes 2 cups)

A handful of thyme sprigs
2 tsp loose green tea leaves
Piece of ginger root (for grating)
1 lemon (for zesting)
Optional sweetener e.g honey/sugar/agave nectar etc
Grater/zester
Enough water for 2 cups

tsp = teaspoon

Directions:

  • Boil the water in a kettle
  • Chop the thyme
  • Grate about 2 teaspoons worth of ginger and zest 2 teaspoons worth of lemon peel
  • Add the chopped leaves along with the loose green tea, grated ginger and lemon zest to a teapot and pour on the boiled water
  • Give everything a quick stir and let steep for about 5-7 minutes
  • After steeping, give another quick stir
  • Finally, strain into your cups, and if using, stir in the sweetener

That's it! Serve and enjoy

How to Make Dried Thyme Tea...

Given the choice I'll take fresh every time, but you can still get a decent cuppa using dried that also has certain well-being and health benefits. You use it just like you would loose tea leaves...

What You'll Need For Dried: (makes 2 cups)

3 tbsp of dried thyme
2 tsp loose green tea leaves
Piece of ginger root (for grating)
1 lemon (for zesting)
Optional sweetener e.g honey/sugar/agave nectar etc
Grater/zester
Enough water for 2 cups

tsp = teaspoon
tbsp = tablespoon

  • Boil the water in a kettle
  • Grate about 2 teaspoons worth of ginger and zest 2-3 teaspoons worth of lemon peel
  • Add the dried thyme along with the green tea leaves, grated ginger and lemon zest to a teapot and pour in the boiled water
  • Give everything a quick stir and let steep for about 7 minutes
  • After steeping, give another quick stir
  • Finally, strain into your cups, and if using, stir in the sweetener
