Homemade Fajita Seasoning - A Popular,
Versatile Blend That's Great For Tex-Mex

Of course it's really simple to pick up a packet of fajita mix full of mysterious spices from the store, but the homemade fajita seasoning below is so quick and easy I recommend you give it a go. It will add fab flavours to your recipes and you know exactly what's in there! (See the bottom of the page for links to more of my recipes)

What You'll Need: (makes about 7-8 tablespoons)

3 tbsp chili powder
2 tbsp cumin seeds
2 tbsp dried oregano
1 tbsp onion powder
2 tsp garlic powder
2 tsp sea salt
1 tsp black peppercorns
1 beef stock/bouillon cube (optional)

tbsp = tablespoon
tsp = teaspoon

Directions:

  • Grind the cumin seeds, salt and peppercorns
  • Add to a bowl
  • Stir in the onion, garlic and chili powders
  • Crumble in the dried oregano and optional bouillon (if using). Stir again

Store in an airtight jar out of direct sunlight and use within 3 months.

Note: For even more flavour, you can toast the cumin and peppercorns before grinding.

Note:
If you don't have all the whole spices for this fajita seasoning mix just use pre-ground powders and reduce the amounts by half. For example, 2 tablespoons of cumin seeds equals about 1 tablespoon of  pre-ground cumin. Reduce any others you don't have whole by half as well.

Here's a short slideshow of how I made this homemade seasoning...
